Military specified high power converter progresses to final acceptance testing Preston converter impresses Australian Ministry of Defence

As part of the ongoing military effort for defence Preston dc/dc converters especially designed for navy use are in the final stages of acceptance testing by the Australian armed forces.

This project was to produce a compact, cylindrical, highly efficient, and RFI quiet, isolated step down converter of 16kW to power remote underwater vehicles for Navy use (input 2kV-3.8kV, output 350VDC at 40 amps)

By end November 2005, testing was complete and full use being made for remote and ship board operation.
